The Best 3.75 Years of Your Life

People do often refer to college as the best four years of your life. First of all: I didn’t believe that for a while, so if every day of the four years weren’t perfect, you aren’t alone. Adjusting to college was hard and I had challenging semesters. But when I started my senior year I was EXCITED. So excited. I had my best friend one room away, a social calendar full of events, a schedule of classes I loved with journalists I loved working with, and the anticipation of time-honored senior traditions. And then the rug went flying out from under me. The Coronavirus Pandemic happened, which meant nothing I…

LDOC: Tears For All the Wrong Reasons

Last semester I wrote a post about LDOC; the last day of class. I had always planned to write something about my last day of college class, but right now…I just don’t know what to say. This is about to be a messy stream of consciousness piece but that’s ok with me because my thoughts and feelings are a mess. Today is my last day of class as well as my last day of college. LDOC is a day we look forward to as students. It means we completed another semester of hard work and is a day for celebrating that. Spring LDOC is a campus-wide party. But not this…

    Someone’s in the kitchen…

Surprisingly it’s me! I hate quarantine because I miss everything I loved about my life: going to class, being a journalist, seeing my friends, being around family, going out to eat, and spending time at my sorority house. Those last few things posed a bit of a problem when I ended up in my apartment alone. My mom is a great cook and so are all the chefs who worked the ZTA kitchen. When I did have to feed myself on weekends, I turned to leftover boxes from Zeta, eating out, and take out. There was nothing wrong with that because it was the weekend, so only two days…nothing to…

Two Books; Two Days; Ten Recs

Yeah, I did that. I read two books in only two days. A book a day. I won’t be continuing to read a book a day because I have college classes, exams, and a job hunt to worry about, but when I took Easter weekend off from all that I returned to something that I always took comfort in: reading. I love to read because the stories in the books temporarily take me out of the world I am in. This is especially helpful right now in such a confusing world. I’ve always loved to read. While other kids hid their Nintendo DS under the covers after bedtime, hoping the…

    Tales From Quarantine

Alright, nobody is really “having fun” being stuck in the house all the time with events cancelled and no outside interaction. But, everyone is making it work. I was really worried about how I would make it work as a reporter in isolation. My favorite part of the job is going to new places and meeting new people every day. I love the idea that I would never be stuck behind a desk in one place; in essence the whole world is my office! What a view right? Well, the shelter in place order has obviously changed the physical aspect of that, but I’ve still been able to meet new…

    🎶Feels like home to me…

“…here in ZTA. It feels like I’m all the way back where I come from.”🎶 After living in three different places over four years at UNC, and none of them in the Zeta house, I can still say that 120 North Street truly feels like my Chapel Hill home. I never thought I would be the type to cry on Pref Night. But when my sisters sang our Pref song I couldn’t hold back the tears. It truly did feel like home: there in the Zeta dining room, the walls covered in white sheets, all of us in black dresses, surrounded by my best friends as well as girls who…

    Always

Quarantine has given me the opportunity get back to reading my current book series obsession (Game of Thrones), but since I’m nowhere near done with those books, this is a post about my first series love: the one and only Harry Potter. (^^Accurate representation of my actions during quarantine) Harry Potter is a series I was raised on. This is about to be a fangirl post, so buckle up. I LOVE Harry Potter. Like, love Harry Potter. I’ve read all the books, seen all the movies, been to Harry Potter World in Universal, read and seen the spinoffs, seen the Very Potter Musical comedy, and played the whole Wizarding World…

    When You Quarantine an Extrovert

When you quarantine an extrovert, she won’t take it well. She’ll cry and complain because she won’t know how to cope. She’ll miss her independence, her autonomy, her friends, her apartment, her town, and her life. She won’t get out of bed or change out of her pajamas for a few days. Finally, she’ll get moving. When you quarantine an extrovert, she’ll start to turn to other comforts. She’ll lay out on the porch with her next Game of Thrones book (A Storm of Swords) when it’s warm and sunny. She’ll curl up on the couch and binge her next show obsession (Little Fires Everywhere) when it’s cold and rainy.…

    Froomies

“Froomies.” This is a word that has a highly debated meaning among my friends. Whether it means “future roommate” or “friend roommate” it’s a thing that every girl says about the people she lives with in college. This is a post exclusively about my roomie: the one and only Lindsey Pope. Recently, Lindsey and I had a confusing conversation about how and when exactly we met freshman year. We didn’t live together then, but we have for the past three years. She said she remembered meeting girls from my suite and we had all hung out in our dorm one night. I thought about it for a second, and came…

    News-y

Last year in mid-February, I was what one might call a cub reporter for Carolina Week – UNC’s student news TV broadcast. I was really nervous in every pitch meeting, and while I turned content for every weekly show, I never anchored or reported live. In late February of 2019, I pitched that we cover the dedication of a future monument site on Franklin Street where nine African American men staged a sit-in in 1960. I was told to “grab a VO or a VOSOT” (shoot video and maybe a short interview) for the next show. I had no idea what to expect. I had interviewed the Chapel Hill Mayor…
