Tell Me About It...

30 Years Later

I love numbers but I hate math. You might be thinking…that doesn’t make sense, but I promise it does! I like the ~aesthetic~ of calendar dates, the continuity of years and that numbers can sometimes tell a compelling story. For example, fun fact, todays date, 2/20/20 is a palindrome! It’s the same order forwards and backwards, which is cool.

I love that my mom went to UNC too, and what’s cool is that it was exactly 30 years ago. She graduated high school in 1986 and college in 1990. I graduated high school in 2016 and will college in 2020. (All really pleasing years as is!) Today is Super Bowl Sunday and I’m in Chapel Hill for a watch party. Earlier today, my mom sent this picture in our family group chat.

My lovely mother is third from the left.

She texted,

“30 years ago…my roommates and I threw a keg party for the super bowl! The funny thing is (besides the horrible hair) the 49ers won!”

She’s told this story before and said that they invited some girlfriends and only guys came. Today, I’m at my friend’s boyfriend’s house with some of my best friends ready for Super Bowl 54 kickoff between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers…pulling for the 49ers of course. I love that my mom sent me these types of memories over my four years of college. We are like a then and now image; the 30 years edition.

Now, if San Francisco won that would make an awesome 30 years later story. But either way, I will never tire of the “30 years ago” memories my mother and I get to share.
