I’m Shipping Up to Boston
Boston, Massachusetts. Home of the Freedom Trail, Fenway Park, Faneuil Hall, Pops Orchestra, and the Celtics (see that Irish connection). Today I will be seeing none of those things, since I’ll be spending six hours in Boston Logan International Airport on my way to Dublin, Ireland. I’m well prepared with two books and seven movies to pass the time. I am excited to be spending six weeks interning with bigO production and creative agency, and eight weeks studying contemporary Irish society and sociology at Dublin City University. While this isn’t my first time out of the US, it will be the longest I will have ever spent abroad. I can’t wait to immerse myself and see the history and culture of Ireland to expand my knowledge, which currently consists of Ed Sheeran, potatoes, druids, and Guinness. To be honest, the main reason I chose to go to Dublin is because they speak English. So you can imagine how confused I was during a skype interview with bigO when my soon-to-be supervisor Ricky asked if I had a “gaff” (housing or place to stay). Needless to say, I’ll be learning a lot in and outside of the classroom and workplace. All in all, I’m happy to trade the 90% humidity for sweet a sweet 70 degrees and small town North Carolina life for European city living. With the help of the internet to convert miles to kilometers and fahrenheit to celsius, I’m off to learn as much as I can about Ireland. Bon Voyage!
